ACTIVITIES

Below are the activities each of you have chosen for your free time on Friday, March 29.

Kohala Waterfall Hike

The excursion begins with a scenic drive, as a naturalist guide reveals the region’s natural beauty, Hawaiian legends, and sugarcane history, transporting guests from the rugged lava rock terrain of the resort coastline, past rolling green pasturelands and through locked gates to the lush windward jungles of North Kohala. The exclusive loop trail, surrounded by private nature reserve, offers a peaceful setting for 1-2 miles of light hiking along two streams with several waterfalls, three bridges, an ancient Hawaiian agricultural site and historic sugarcane irrigation flumes. Along the trail, enjoy the option to cool off in a refreshing mountain stream with cascading falls overhead. After the hike, head down the mountain to a private overlook for a picnic lunch with breathtaking views of soaring sea cliffs and remote valleys.

Meet in the hotel lobby at 9:00 AM to sign waivers and prepare for your 9:15 AM departure. Please be sure to wear closed-toe shoes and bring your HPE towel, Fairmont water bottle and sunscreen. Or you can grab a towel at the bell stand outside the main lobby. Lunch will be included with this activity. Your estimated return to the hotel is 3:15 PM.

Golf

In the world of golf, Hawaii Island is regarded as the pinnacle playground, a land of uncommon beauty, startling diversity and welcoming weather. Here, alongside Fairmont Orchid, is an award-winning 45-hole championship Hawaii golf course. The Mauna Lani Golf Course was designed to have two distinct 18-hole complexes, the south and north course, each capturing unique characteristics of the Hawaii Island landscape. Both courses will satisfy every level, appealing to the recreational golfer and ready to be tightened up to meet the demands of tournament play.

We have scheduled you to play the South course. You have the option of playing through all 18 holes or stopping at 9. The South Course is built on the prehistoric Kaniku lava flow, geologically a relatively young flow. The golf course snakes through stark, rugged, aa lava. The Volcano goddess, Pele, reigns supreme on this course. If she favors you, balls hit into the lava will miraculously bounce back into the fairway. If not, kiss them good-bye! Aside from great golf, this challenging course offers the golfer a range of mountain and ocean views and was home of the Senior Skins Game for 10 years.

Your tee time includes club and cart rentals, 2 sleeves of balls each and access to the practice range. You should be able to order lunch using your room credit but Karen Spink will confirm.

The hotel offers a shuttle to take you to the Mauna Lani Golf Course. Please plan to depart no later than 9:00 AM from the hotel main lobby to give yourself plenty of time to check-in, get fitted for clubs, etc.
